If you want to shape your future

Years ago I was invited to visit a famous spiritual community, one of the largest in Europe. There were cultivated fields, a school, beautiful temples, an art workshop, it even had a state-of-the-art hospital.
In a moment of pause, one of the founders told me in confidence: ‘If I were to come back, I would not come here, I would not do this again. Do you know why? Because for forty years we lived for this project, it absorbed us completely, and we lost sight of everything else, including ourselves.”

What is happening now? Millions of people around the world have spent the last few years intensely longing for the future, an alternative human community. Millions of new projects, designs, desires are now travelling through the ether: a wonderful wave. Remember, however, that whatever you wish to do on this earth, in this life of yours, will only work if it works for you. Do not lose sight of yourself.

If you are creating so-so, without love, without intensity, without fire, without you, it will be a journey full of remorse. If you are only pursuing something out of duty, formality, out of inertia and without passion for yourself having arisen in your heart, have the courage to leave it to others, to let go. Because for a human being to live well is so simple, it does not require much effort, only to be someone else, to live as others would do, requires a lot of effort.

And then if passion drives you for real then it will soon evolve into something else, something we need just as much: passion will become compassion. Where compassion is not mere kindness, but passionate involvement.

Compassion is that love for diversity that will make all the currents of these great rivers flow into one Ocean, into one great Humanity.
