Handling Difficult Situations in 4 Steps

The first step is realizing that something is not going the way you would like. The actions taken in the past have not produced the hoped-for result. If you listen within, you can feel it easily: the pressure increases, everything slows down, movements are no longer natural, sincere, simple.

In the second step, you know you are dealing with a bomb, and now you must decide which approach to take. With a bomb there are always only two options: defuse it or let it explode. The first requires patience and experience, but it leads to an accompanied change, to a new balance. The second is faster, but it causes major consequences within yourself and all around you.

A mind that runs obsessively through every possibility and the weight on the heart will lead to a lowering of mood. It is important to allow these sensations to pass through you, or they may grow stronger. Stay in the company of your pain, learn to observe and to be compassionate with yourself.

The third step is to immerse yourself in a higher vision of the situation, beginning to ask yourself some questions, such as:

How did we get here?
Does my heart truly want to resolve this situation?
How can I learn, heal, and grow from what is happening?

The fourth and final step is the one in which you invest energy in action. Everything for which you are responsible needs you to set the course. For everything else, have faith and let the Universe put the pieces of the puzzle together.

And when things begin to improve, you will see that your effort has been an example and that the whole world has changed. Because, as Lao Tzu said: when you find the path, others will find it too, and in finding the way they will be drawn to your door.
